Full Driver Requirements
License
- Unrestricted Class A commercial driver's license (no learner's permits or restricted licenses)
- No invalid, expired, suspended, or revoked license violations in the past 36 months
- No more than one license suspension for moving violations in the past 36 months
Past 12 months
- No preventable accident resulting in a fatality, serious injury, or payout over $100,000
- No handheld phone or texting violations while driving a commercial vehicle
- No improper seatbelt use violations
- No more than one unsafe driving violation (dangerous driving, speeding in restricted zones)
- No hazmat load securement violations
Past 36 months
- No more than two moving violations total
- No more than one preventable accident, or one preventable accident and one moving violation in any combination
- No reckless or aggressive driving
- No speeding 15+ mph over the posted limit
- No operating a commercial vehicle without valid medical certification
- No illegal substances or alcohol in the vehicle
- No out-of-service order violations
- No falsification of DOT documents
- No unauthorized passengers in a commercial vehicle
- No driver fitness or hours-of-service violations
Past 60 months
- No driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or controlled substances
- No failed or refused DOT drug or alcohol test
- No hit-and-run incidents
- No school bus or railroad crossing violations
- No fleeing from law enforcement
- No felony use of a vehicle
- No pattern of excessive violations (five or more moving violations)
Background
- Felony charges: minimum 7 years since clearance (more serious charges may have different requirements)
- DUI/DWI: minimum 5 years since conviction
- Misdemeanors: minimum 3 years since conviction
- Sexual abuse convictions with active registration orders: not eligible
